Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum Rivalries

We Create

Presented with a brief to fill a large wall within the museum space with three projectors and create a piece of video with sound to tell the story of the tennis Rivalries that have played a final on Centre Court. This immersive large film needed to give the viewer a flavour of watching the great tennis rivals compete on centre court, condensed into a few minutes. The idea was to ‘place’ the viewer in the best seats, following the action as it swings from right to left, left to right, just as in an actual match, using the whole length of the large available wall. We included examples of all the ‘moments’ in a match that, combined together, make watching a clash of two great rivals such an amazing experience.

We Produce

The Wimbledon archive library holds hours and hours of multi-format tennis matches from Chris Evert to Novak Djokovic. Our researcher visited every match in order to create a folder of ‘the magic shots’ for the editor and producer to tell the story of the players and their rivalry on centre court (and sometimes off court too) and some matches went on for over 3 hours! That is a lot of tennis to condense into ‘moments’

We Edit

Our team meticulously crafted an offline edit that follows the timeline of a match. It begins with the players leaving the dressing room and getting ready for the first serve, then captures the ups and downs of the competition before concluding with a triumphant winner, a disappointed loser, and a return to the dressing rooms. To ensure high-quality visuals, we stored some of the clips in a multi-format setting as the resolution would not have been suitable for large projections. To create an intense sense of rivalry, we produced a powerful soundtrack that includes moments of stillness and heartbeats.

We Grade

We wanted to ensure the clips were kept within their authentic period, so we did not need to produce an overall grade. We graded each individual rivalry match to get the best of the picture. We embraced the grain within the early filmed tennis matches.

We Deliver

We facilitated the delivery process by encoding test films to assess the level of editing and light ambience in the space. Since the films were projected on a large screen, we collaborated closely with the technical team to ensure their smooth playback within the space.
